I've waited about 96 hours, and I still cannot get to my domain, what can I do? Some domain registrars actually take a lot longer than it used to take in the past. In the early years of the internet it can take as little as 30 minutes to move a domain from one provider to another. Now is sometimes takes up to 96 hours or longer. So, our best advice is to have plenty of patience, and make sure you contact your domain registrar when in doubt because at PurgWeb we are unfortunately at the same mercy of these large registrars as our clients are.
Does PurgHost allow international domains like .co.uk? Yes! We can work with any "top level" domain registered with a foreign registrar.
Can I point my domain to one of PurgHost's DNS servers instead? You cannot have your registry point to the IP address of one of our name servers, because those servers are not web servers. (you are really seeing the firewall at the outside perimeter of our network) They are responsible for routing your web traffic to one of hundreds of web servers in our data center. One of which has your web site on it. Your web site is truly inside a private network protected from hackers and abusive spammers.
Can PurgHost process the domain transfer for us? Yes. PurgHost will help with the domain transfer process at no additional charge.
My domain is registered under someone else (i.e. previous hosting company) This can be a problem. You will need to work with the person who registered your domain and transfer ownership to you before doing anything else. Work with the domain registrar as they can assist you with this process. Please note that this can be a time consuming and painful process. So have lots of patience when doing this!
I moved my domain and uploaded my site, but all I get is an under construction page? Why? You must delete or overwrite this file if you are to display your own home page. The system is designed to respond to different home pages, like default.htm, index.html etc.
I do not want to wait for the domain to transfer. I want to upload now. Your domain will still take time to transfer to our system. There is nothing PurgHost can do to speed this process up. A domain that has been around for a long time will always take up to 96 hours to properly replicate throughout the internet. Do not expect any less for 100% worldwide replication. It may be available to you sooner, but it may not be available to another person in another country or even your friend down the street. And yes, we have seen domains take more than a week to move. So please have patience, this is something that is going to take longer and longer as the internet gets bigger.
What is DNS? DNS stands for Domain Name Server. A domain name server is responsible for pointing your domain to a valid server on the internet, in this case valid web and mail servers.
My domain registrar does not ask for the IP addresses, just the name server names. That's perfectly fine. Don't worry about it. If they do not ask for it, don't try to look for a way to enter it. They probably do not need it.
I do not want to use my domain registrar anymore, can I move to a new domain registration service? Absolutely! We recommend SpeedyDomainRegistration.Com. and don't forget to tell them that PurgHost sent you!
